Poster prizes

Before the conference we set aside an award fund of £100,000 for young investigators (aged under 30 years) presenting posters at Childhood Cancer 2012. The awards were intended to encourage high-calibre young scientists to progress their career in childhood cancer research.

With 26 eligible entries, the prize committee decided to short-list in advance of the conference so that only short-listed candidates were interviewed. All candidates were asked to provide the text of their poster in advance along with a statement concerning what proportion of the work reported was their own.

From this, the committee drew up a short-list of candidates who were interviewed during the three days of the conference.

Awards were announced at the end of the conference; the successful young researchers are:

Use of prize funds

The money is given to each author's host institution for use by the author to support any aspect of their research relevant to childhood cancer. Funds must be spent within 12 months of award, following which a report must be submitted to CHILDREN with CANCER UK detailing the use of the funds.
